A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
