Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the Australian man shoving aside media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
