The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the relatively straightforward qualification for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to stage the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The English side are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their round of 16 match would be held at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Demonstration

The tournament was launched at an gathering in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the venue by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were raised with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will include the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5pm.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from next season, will attract families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a championship for the followers and a celebration of everything we cherish about the football – its fervor and power to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million passes, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be released to fans.
