The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage a different club within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward was killed in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Overwhelming.”
