The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
